Weapons of War

Do we need more bad news? Locally and internationally, what with economic and climate crises and more, our wonderful world seems to be spiralling out of control.

I was horrified this week to read of how artificial intelligence is being used in weapons. Recent advances in this area pose a real threat not just to human life, but to all life on earth. It sends a chill down the spine. There’s no doubt we need some kind of intervention!

The Bible speaks of such an event. The Message rendition of Matthew 24:22, a passage that discusses the constant parlous state of humanity, says this of the way it’s all heading, “This is going to be trouble on a scale beyond what the world has ever seen, or will see again. If these days of trouble were left to run their course, nobody would make it. But on account of God’s chosen people, the trouble will be cut short”.

It’s talking of the return of Jesus Christ. It gives us hope that ultimately our future will not be defined by who has the biggest or most powerful weapons. Instead, it will be determined by God’s love for us.

Let’s not wait till then to let God’s love transform our lives today.

Warm regards,
