Freedom for the Prisoners
Hello,
When I hear of hostages being set free, such as happened this week in Gaza, I feel relieved for them, and it makes me think of what Jesus has done not just for Christians, but also for the whole world.
The biblical metaphor is that we are all held captive by our own sin-filled actions and that Jesus was sent “to proclaim freedom for the prisoners” among whom all of us are numbered (Luke 4:18 NIV). This means that we have been set free, and that we no longer have to live in the darkness, such as some of the hostages did and do still in the Hamas web of underground tunnels.
I wonder: do we live as someone who has been set free by Jesus? Or as someone still trapped by our sins?
Let’s pray for everyone caught up in warfare and in terrorism.
And, at the same time, rejoice in the freedom we have in Christ.
Warm regards,
Gavin
