Liberation
Hello.
Leaders from around the world gathered in France this week to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-day landings. The landings were the first stage of a large military operation to liberate France from Nazi occupation and the event was viewed as a key turning point of World War II. But it also came with great cost – many Allied soldiers gave their lives on the beaches of Normandy to free Europe from the horrors of Nazi rule.
Their sacrifices remind me of another death almost 2,000 years ago. Jesus was not a soldier, but he gave his life to rescue all of humanity from sin and death. The early Christians understood this in terms of liberation from evil – that Jesus has overcome all “the powers and authorities…triumphing over them by the cross” (Colossians 2:15 NIV).
Freedom comes at a cost, and Jesus Christ gave his life to purchase our freedom from sin and death. Use your freedom:
Choose hope. Choose life. Choose Jesus.
Warm regards,
Gavin
