Safeguard your minds and hearts

Hello.

The need for content moderation has been highlighted in both the UK and international news this week.

It’s referring to censoring negative images before they are posted on social media platforms. The aim is to protect vulnerable people, especially children and teenagers, but one of the problems raised is that those who check such content might also pollute their minds by overexposure to overtly explicit images.

This is not a new concern. Over 2000 Jesus Christ warned us about letting unhelpful notions and images dwell in our minds. He said in Mark 7:21 that “it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come” (NIV). But how do such thoughts get into our hearts in the first place? Is it through overexposure to sin-filled ideas? Elsewhere, in Matthew 9:4, Jesus asked his audience then and he also asks us now, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?”

Why not begin to moderate what we allow ourselves to think about, what we permit ourselves to watch and see, and what we do as a result.

Let Jesus help you safeguard your minds and hearts.

Best regards,
James
