More than what we build
This week the news featured Bot the Builder – a robotic bricklayer capable of constructing walls with remarkable speed and precision. Hailed as a potential answer to the UK’s housing shortage, the technology marks a significant milestone in the construction industry and raises important questions about the future of work.
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape society, we may wonder where human value is found. Scripture reminds us that our worth has never depended on what we produce. We are created in God’s image, and through Jesus Christ are welcomed into the loving fellowship of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our identity is rooted not in our achievements but in God’s grace revealed in Christ.
Technology is a gift that can be used wisely. Robots may help build homes more efficiently and make workplaces safer. Yet they cannot love, forgive, worship, or share in the relationships for which humanity was created. These are expressions of God’s own life at work in us through the Holy Spirit.
Rather than fearing innovation or placing our hope in it, Christians are invited to view every advance through the lens of God’s kingdom. Human creativity reflects our Creator and is at its best when it serves others with justice, compassion, and love.
While machines may help build houses, God is building something far more enduring: a people whose lives are being transformed in Christ by the Spirit, growing together as his dwelling place, with a hope that no technology can ever replace.
In Christian love,
Barry Robinson
