Judges have been in the news this week, especially the idea of appealing to a supreme court or to a superior judge for a final decision on a disputed matter.
Religions, among them Christianity, sometimes depict God as a Supreme Judge who issues, typically, a harsh judgment on humanity. The biblical reality, however, is that God judges to save and not to condemn.
Yes, of course, throughout our history we have had bad ideas and acted on them. Thankfully, the Bible explains that grace triumphs over condemnation. In fact, the supreme decision was that God’s son, Jesus, would die for us so that we would not be condemned. It’s a reversal of what many might expect!
Let’s thank God for the grace we find in Jesus Christ.
