I’ve been waiting impatiently for a certain blue letter to drop through my letterbox. Well guess what? Last week it finally arrived. Then I couldn’t wait to get my vaccine, and yesterday the big day came. Now I am eagerly anticipating my follow up appointment.
What is it about us human beings that we seem to prefer living for the future, when all the best advice encourages us to dwell in the present? The medical profession tells us it’s a healthier way to be. Psychiatrists have demonstrated it makes us happier. And according to the major faith traditions, it’s also good for our spiritual well-being.
On the topic of living for the moment, Jesus, founder of the world’s largest religion, simply said, “I am”. A mind-blowing concept which he means he lives in the here and now forever. He then proved it by dying to save the world and coming back to life again to usher in the gift of eternity for any who believe in him.
So let’s not dwell on the mistakes of the past or worry about what happens in the future. Put your trust in Jesus and live now and forever.
All the very best,
