Galway 2021

Galway 2021The Galway Celebration was a wonderful occasion to get together surrounded by the warm and loving members of GCI Ireland. Set in beautiful Galway Bay, looking out to the ocean, it was a precious few days where God was praised, His word shared and much love and fellowship felt by all. A truly beautiful time.

From Wednesday 8th to Sunday 12th September, we heard inspiring worship and messages from Ephesians 3:17-19, the theme for all celebrations in 2021, and we enjoyed the tasty local food, uplifting fellowship and trips into the surrounding countryside.

On Thursday a large group got together after services for lunch at the famous seafood restaurant, Padraicins, right on the beach at Ballynahown. It was a beautiful day.

On Friday morning we travelled by car to Kylemore Abbey in Connemara and had lunch there before visiting the formal walled gardens and then inside the magnificent house itself. We then walked around part of the grounds, looking at some of the features adjacent to the house and surrounding lake.

On Saturday evening the now legendary House Party took place, hosted by Joe Casey in his rented cottage. We had a few newcomers at the event, and everyone had a rare old time. Most contributed a party piece in one form or another and we had songs by good and bad singers, poems and duets, a story or two and a few jokes, with young and old participating. Music was provided by Tim Chambers on the accordion, there was an abundance of food and the Guinness flowed like Liffey water.

Sunday was the last day of our celebration, and it came all too soon. Sinead Henderson led worship and David Stirk conducted a communion service using Galatians 4:4-6 by way of introduction. Then, after a couple of songs, Gavin Henderson gave a sermon, looking at “The richness that we have in Christ.”

All in all we had a most enjoyable celebration, with 22 of us in attendance on the Saturday. The weather was good, the fellowship was great and the food, both physical and spiritual, was abundant. What more could anyone ask for?
