Seeking a better life

Hello,

With a great deal of sadness I read a news article this morning about the death of a migrant who was seeking to cross the channel in the hope of a better life in the UK. This topic has become a very polarising one, with the government seeking to relocate migrants who illegally travel to the UK to Rwanda in an effort to curb immigration numbers.

It is incredible to think of the journey many of these migrants undergo in attempt to secure a safer and brighter future for themselves and their family. They risk everything in the hopes of a better life.

This story reminds me of when Joseph took Mary and the infant Jesus and fled to Egypt for fear of their lives. They felt it was a safer place to be, away from the vengeful tyranny of Herod the Great, just like many migrants today flee from autocratic and dangerous regimes.

Jesus, the Son of God, “became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14 NIV), and he identifies with all of us in our sufferings and hardships. In fact, he offers every one access to a better life after this life, and therefore is the hope for both the living and the dead.

Put your trust in Jesus, who is our lifeguard in the tumultuous seas of life.

Warm regards,
Gavin
