Sea of Blood
Hello,
I woke up this morning to the news that the US and Britain had struck a number of Houthi targets in Yemen in response to the recent spate of attacks against ships in the Red Sea.
What will this mean for the world’s conflicts? Will this make things worse or better? The President of Turkey had a strong opinion on this matter, describing the attacks as trying to turn the Red Sea into a “sea of blood.”
Similar terminology appears in the Book of Revelation where in John’s vision we are told that, following a volcanic eruption, “a third of the sea became blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed” (Revelation 8:8 NRSV).
Interestingly, despite the graphic wording, the purpose of the Book of Revelation is not to inspire fear but to give hope. The message of the book of Revelation is the same message as that contained in the rest of the Bible – that there is hope for us because of Jesus.
If you are fearful of the future, the Gospel message is for you.
Warm regards,
Gavin.
