God remembers our tears

Hello,

With all that is happening in the world, Iraq attacking Israel, the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and the war between Russia and Ukraine, it is easy to forget others who are suffering, especially if their pain is from a long time ago,

This month, 10 years ago, 276 schoolgirls were kidnapped from their dormitory in the middle of the night by Nigeria’s Boko Haram Islamist militants. A decade later the world has largely forgotten the plight of the ‘Chibok girls’. But for the victims and their families, the tragedy is ongoing.

This week, 35 years ago, 96 football supporters died and 766 were injured in the Hillsborough football disaster. It may not be at the forefront of our minds, but the pain of that event lives on throughout the families affected and the communities of Liverpool.

We too may still be experiencing pain from a personal tragedy that has been long forgotten by others. If so, take comfort that God hasn’t forgotten, as the psalmist says, ‘You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.’ (Psalm 56:8 NLT).

God remembers all the hurts that are still lingering and because he knows how these sit in our heart he abundantly provides the love that comforts us (Psalm 119:76).

Let us join the Apostle Paul in saying, ‘Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.’ (2 Corinthians 1:3 NIVUK).

In Christian love,
