When life lets you down
Hello again,
Last week a cybersecurity update glitch on Microsoft Windows computers brought the western world to a temporary standstill. As Elon Musk said, it was the ‘Biggest IT fail ever.’
This week my broadband is still down, and according to EE it won’t be up and running again until next Monday, so I may have to send this letter out by carrier pigeon.
But seriously, what a global communications outage like the one we have just had tells us is that the human race is far too dependent on technology. When airlines, banks, government departments and even GP surgeries can be knocked out of action so easily, it just shows how vulnerable our fragile networked world is to catastrophic disruption.
Maybe it is time for a rethink. I’m not saying we should go back to the horse and cart, but surely there are lessons that can be learned. After all, when Jesus embarked on a programme to evangelise the whole world, he told his disciples to take nothing except a pair of sandals and a staff. And just look how fast the Gospel spread.
Perhaps the lesson is, don’t rely on the things of this world, instead depend on Jesus. He is all you need and he will never let you down.
Kind regards
Peter Mill
