The scorpion’s sting
Hello.
There was a scary news article this week about a young woman who opened a package from an online clothing retailer only to find an unexpected guest – a scorpion!
It certainly made me a lot more cautious today when it came to opening a parcel delivered to my office. Interestingly Jesus once spoke about unexpectedly receiving a scorpion, speaking to a large crowd on the subject of prayer he said: “What father among you, if his son asks for… an egg, will give him a scorpion?” Luke 11:11-12 ESV.
Jesus point was that, if even flawed human fathers desire to respond to their children’s requests, how much more will our perfect Heavenly Father?
God is not capricious – he hears our prayers and responds as a loving Father would: sometimes with a “yes”, sometimes with a “no” and sometimes with a “not yet”. But we never need to fear that he will respond with anger, indifference or hate.
We need not fear being stung by a scorpion’s tail with God.
