Peace in the Middle East

Hello again

The Middle East has been hogging the headlines again this week with the news that Israeli troops have killed the Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Some say this will almost certainly lead to repercussions by Iran and its proxies. Others that this could be a turning point for the war in Gaza. Meanwhile families of the remaining hostages are urging Israeli president Netanyahu to push for a deal to bring their relatives home.

Will there ever be peace in the Middle East? A recent Gallup survey found that 66% of Israelis and 68% of those living in the West Bank and East Jerusalem think a permanent peace will never be achieved.

Yet I, like billions of other Christians, disagree. When our Lord Jesus Christ returns, the Jews will recognise their Messiah, the Muslims will worship the Son of God and the whole world will finally understand what true peace is, because the Prince of Peace will show them.

But when? Philippians 4 verses 5-7 tells us: “The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

In the meantime, join me in praying for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6).

All the best

Peter
