Hello,
Have you ever wondered about what God thinks of our world politics?
In the Psalms it suggests that God sighs inwardly and laughs in exasperation and with angst at how nations create alliances and yet at the same time conspire against one another. It’s a topical subject this week, is it not? There’s been news about international alliances. Should NATO be strengthened? Should the Commonwealth be reconfigured? And what about BRICS – should it be a new world order to challenge the dominance of the West?
Psalms 2 begins with a question: “Why do the nations conspire and the people plot in vain?” Verse 10 shows a way forward, “Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling” (Psalms 2:1, 10 NIV). They should tremble now because, despite their protestations to the contrary, they don’t promote the way of peace.
The Psalms goes on to declare that, surely, it’s time for all of us, both individually and nationally, to lay down our weapons and surrender to God’s Son, Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Peaceful regards,
Gavin
