Wildfires

Hello,

Like many others, I have been waiting anxiously to hear from friends and relatives this week who live in Los Angeles as wild fires ravage different parts of the city.

It has been devastating to see the pictures and to hear the stories of those who have lost their homes and all their possessions. Where do we turn to in these moment of pain and loss?

After losing her house in a fire in 1666, the poet Anne Bradshaw wrote these words:

“That fearful sound of “fire” and “fire,”
Let no man know is my Desire.
I, starting up, the light did spy,
And to my God my heart did cry
To straighten me in my Distress
And not to leave me succourless.”

Whatever sorrow or loss we might be going through, we can turn to God in our time of need. He hears our prayers and is present with us in our suffering.

In a world where nothing seems to last and everything is temporary, God’s love for us is eternal. Put your trust in him alone.

Warm regards,

Gavin.
