A Faithful Friend
Hello,
This week over 18,000 dogs from all over the world competed in the Crufts dog show. I was aware of the Best in Show top prize, but there was one award I was not familiar with, the Friend for Life Award, also known as the Hero Award, celebrating the unique relationships people have with ‘man’s best friend’.
There were five finalists this year: a blood donor dog who had saved the life of other pets; a dog who, alongside his grieving owner, walked the length of the English coast to raise money for charity; a rescue dog, abandoned at four weeks old, who became a life-changing therapy dog; a dog who had given a young carer her childhood back and turned her family’s life around, and the winner, a police dog seriously injured in the line of duty, who is providing support to officers on the front line.
All these dogs have been faithful friends to their owners and people in the wider society and give us a glimpse of our ‘friend for life’: Jesus Christ. He shed his blood to save our lives, he walks alongside us, he heals our brokenness, he turns our life around and always provides support on the front line of our human experience.
What a faithful friend we have in Jesus.
In Christian love,
Barry Robinson
