Cancelled debt!
Hello.
Tariffs, trade wars, jittery stock markets, world recession – where will it all end and how will it affect us? One fear is that all these things will lead to an increase in national and personal debt.
When it comes to national debt there are some countries, including the UK, that owe trillions of US dollars, meaning in theory that each of us here in the UK is indebted to the tune of over $50,000!! My question is: to whom do we owe this money??
Fascinatingly, the Bible uses the idea of debt to spell out how we are saved by Jesus Christ. It likens the guilt and effects of the wrong things we do to a kind of debt that we’ve built up through the years. It’s like a negative balance, showing how much we’re in the red. On the cross Jesus “wiped out” the huge debt of sin, cancelling out the debts and setting us free (see Acts 3:19 NIV). Wouldn’t it be great if somehow the whole world’s debts were cancelled??
Of course, it’s hard to make ends meet and ideally now is not the time to over-spend. It is a time, however, when we can turn to Jesus and have our spiritual debts wiped out!
Turn to Jesus.
Warm regards,
Gavin
