Hope through resurrection
Hello.
It seems very ironic that as many European countries plan their “Victory in Europe” celebrations (commemorating when Germany surrendered in World War 2), hostilities continue in Russia and Ukraine.
As I write this there is active fighting in Europe (and elsewhere around the world) despite rumours of temporary ceasefires and despite the pleas of peacemakers such as the late Pope Francis and others.
It reminds me of how true victory is achieved only through the reality of Christ’s resurrection, which was celebrated by Christians only a few days ago. How quickly we forget!
God has given humanity its victory through Jesus Christ. The thought is that there is hope for the millions killed by disease or in warfare because Jesus rose from the grave and became the forerunner of a new life to come, “the firstborn from the dead” (Revelation 1:5 NIV).
Resurrection suggests that we put our old warring ways behind us and that we embrace the ways of peace.
Christ’s peace, that is, not ours. Turn to Jesus and live his resurrected life.
Warm regards,
Gavin
