Grace: not a deal

Hello.

Trade deals have been in the news all week in the UK. After three years of negotiations, the British government has agreed a trade deal with India. Not only that, but the government has also managed to strike a deal with the US to reduce tariffs on keys goods.

Have you ever been tempted to make a deal with God? Often the logic is that if we do what God wants (or what we think he wants), then he might protect us physically and save us spiritually.

Is that true? Is salvation and our relationship with God a deal? Only when we agree to obey God, will he agree to take care of us?

The reality, the Bible tells us, is quite the opposite. It is all about grace – our relationship with God is not transactional, but rather is based upon who God is rather than our worthiness of his love. We don’t earn salvation or God’s love by what we do, say, feel or think.  It’s not a reciprocal deal – it’s God who first loved us by reaching out to us and saving us through Jesus.

Maybe it’s time to accept God’s grace.

Kind regards,
Gavin
