Jesus wept
Hello,
Much was made in the UK news this week of the British Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, crying during a debate in the House of Commons. Several articles suggest it was unprofessional to display such emotion in public.
Jesus, however, does not seem to have felt this way though. The Bible records Jesus weeping twice. Once when he heard that his friend Lazarus had died (just before Lazarus’ resurrection from the dead) and again when he approached Jerusalem (and wept in despair at the hard hearts of the people who lived there). Jesus did not try to hide the emotions he was feeling – he wore his heart on his sleeve.
Jesus’ emotions reveal to us the heart of God. God is not cold and distant and uncaring, he is a God who loves us. Whatever emotions you might be feeling at the moment, God loves you, and is with you, and knows what you are going through.
