Listening
Hello,
Listening seems to be a lost art these days. Perhaps, in its plan to lower the voting age before the next general election, the UK government is saying that it wants to listen more to those who are currently too young to vote.
There’s a story in the Bible of two sisters, Martha and Mary. Martha was too busy to listen to Jesus, while Mary paid attention to his every word. Martha was irritated because Mary was not doing her fair share of the household duties. We can all understand being too busy and getting annoyed with those who don’t help us. Perhaps we wake up in the morning with all kinds of plans and the busyness of the day can crowd them out. Is that how it is spiritually? That we begin with good intentions to listen to Jesus, but we get distracted, sometimes getting upset with others?
In Luke 10:41-42 (NIV) Jesus tells Martha: “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
No matter how busy we are, take the time to listen to Jesus!
Warm regards.Gavin
