Be sincere

Hello.

Here in the UK much of the news this week has been dominated by a spy scandal.

The concept of spying to gain advantage over others has had a long history, going back thousands of years. Before Jesus was crucified for us, the Jewish religious leaders employed spies: “Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be sincere. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said, so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor” (Luke 20:20 NIV).

Did you notice that these spies “pretended to be sincere”? We Christians, however, are called to live a live which is above board and unpretentious. We don’t set traps for people so that they can get hurt or betrayed, which is what happened to Jesus.

Note what Paul wrote in Romans 12:9: “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good”.

Whatever we do or say, let’s cling to that good life of sincerity and truth,

Warm regards,

Gavin
