Hello,
As I write this, football fans around the world are waiting for the World Cup draw.
Taking place in Washington, the draw will determine the group stage opponents for the tournament next summer, and, consequently, how difficult a country’s potential route to victory is.
In some ways this is very odd – that there are people around the world so invested in a football tournament that they will not even play in! If you speak to the fans though, it very quickly becomes apparent that they view themselves as part of the team, and the team’s victory is their victory too.
But perhaps this idea is not so strange. For millions of Christians around the world share a similar belief – that Christ’s victory on the cross, a victory over sin, death and evil, is a victory for all of humanity. It gets even better though, because the Bible tells us that not only has Jesus won the victory, he has promised to share his inheritance – his prize with us.
Maybe it’s time to switch to the winning team?
Warm regards from team Jesus,
Gavin
