Whose voice are you listening to?

Hello.

As I sit here in my favourite coffee shop, I notice that most people, be they young, middle-aged or old, are staring at their phones. Are they all accessing social media? No wonder that the government is thinking about how to limit social media usage for those under 16!

Did you know that the word “phone” is used in biblical Greek? “Phone” is translated as the English word “voice”, and in Christ’s time, just like in today’s society, various groups felt that others were not listening to their “voice”.

The problem was that too many people were tuning into the wrong voices. That’s what Jesus implied. Like lambs and sheep being led astray, they were being swayed by unhelpful messages. Instead of listening to his voice (the “phone”), they were listening to the “phony” voices of strangers! See John 10:5,16.

It’s interesting and relevant, is it not? Of course, we want our young people to listen only to helpful and reliable sources!

And, as for us Christians, let’s pay close attention to the voice of Jesus.

Best regards,

James
