Hope for the planet

Hello.

Today, the renowned conservationist Sir David Attenborough turns 100. Over his remarkable 70‑year career, he has not only inspired countless people to love the natural world, but has also repeatedly warned of the damage humanity is inflicting upon it.

A 2024 report from the WWF states that, over the last 50 years, there has been a 73% average decline in monitored wildlife populations—including mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and amphibians. The scale of this loss is staggering.

In the Bible, human beings are described as being created by God to be stewards of the earth – to “work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15). Instead, in a relentless pursuit of resources, comfort, and wealth, we are destroying the very world entrusted to our care.

Yet there is hope. The choices we make now can slow, and maybe even begin to reverse, this decline. But our deepest hope is Jesus Christ: the One who forgives our failure as stewards and promises the renewal not just of humanity, but of all creation.

Hope for the planet begins with Christ.

Kind regards,

Gavin
