Unity over division

Hello,

Is the UK more divided than ever? This is the question many people are asking after the results of last week’s local elections, particularly as rumours circulate about whether the governing party might seek to oust the current Prime Minister.

For many, Christianity can seem no different. Yet this Sunday, Christians around the world celebrate Pentecost, when we remember the price Christ paid so that we may be one with God, and how he gave us his Holy Spirit to bind us together in love.

Note what Paul wrote to a church that was struggling with divisions: “Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind” (Philippians 2:1-2 NIV).

This Pentecost, let’s not just talk about unity—let’s live it. In what we do, say, and think, may the Spirit make us one in Christ.

Warm regards,

Gavin
