The small things

This week, an investigation into the flight disruption that affected thousands of passengers earlier this month concluded that the problem was caused by a software defect. What is remarkable is that the fault occurred in a matter of milliseconds, yet the consequences were felt across the country as flights were delayed, cancelled, and travel plans thrown into chaos.
It is a reminder of how something tiny can have an impact far beyond what we might expect.The Bible teaches a similar lesson.
“A great forest is set on fire by a small spark” (James 3:5 NIV). “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough” (Galatians 5:9 NIV). Jesus even compared the kingdom of God to a mustard seed, smaller than almost every other seed, yet capable of growing into something remarkable (Matthew 13:31-32).
We often think that what matters most are the big decisions, the major events, and the life-changing moments. But much of life is shaped by things that seem insignificant at the time: a word of encouragement, a small act of kindness, a quiet prayer, a moment of forgiveness, or a simple invitation to follow Jesus.
So this week, don’t underestimate the importance of the small things. A small failure can have far-reaching consequences, but by God’s grace, so can a small act of faithfulness.
