God with us

Large waves breaking against the sea wall at Dawlish, Devon

Hello,

Many parts of the UK have been battered this week by Storm Austen, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, power cuts, travel disruption, and school closures. Some areas experienced gusts of over 70 mph, while thousands of homes were left without power.

Storms have a way of reminding us how little control we really have.

We can track them on weather maps, prepare our homes, and adjust our plans, but when the winds arrive, we are reminded that some forces are bigger than us. What seemed secure can suddenly feel fragile.

The same can be true in life.

Unexpected illness. A difficult diagnosis. A relationship under strain. Financial worries. Questions about the future. Sometimes circumstances arise that leave us feeling as though we are being tossed about by forces beyond our control.

It is in moments like these that the Good News of the Gospel speaks so powerfully.

When Jesus’ disciples found themselves caught in a storm on the Sea of Galilee, they feared for their lives (Matthew 8:23-27). Yet Jesus was with them in the boat. He was not watching from a distance. He was present in the midst of the wind and waves. In Jesus Christ, the Son of God entered our world and shared our humanity. He did not remain safely removed from life’s storms, but stepped directly into them.

The Christian hope is not that we will never face storms, but the Christian comfort is that we are never alone when the storms come.

Put your faith in Jesus.

Warm regards,

Gavin
