Jesus in Everything

One of the shorter verses in the Bible is 1 Thessalonians 5:17 – ‘pray without ceasing.’ It sounds good, but can anyone do this? I try, but it’s not easy, especially with all of the distractions we deal with every day. The various methods I’ve read about and put into practice have all helped – ones like practising the presence of God (Brother Lawrence), using the game with minutes (Frank Laubach) and reading devotionals/scripture at various times of the day.
These are very helpful, but one day I stumbled across another thing to help me pray without ceasing. As I was driving into town, I started praying, ‘Jesus in my driving; Jesus in my thoughts; Jesus in my talking to others; Jesus in the meeting I’ll be attending.’ Just saying those words, in my mind or out loud, has helped remind me that not only is Jesus with me all the time but that he is in everything I do, think and say. And when I remember that I remember to pray about other things as well.
I pray Jesus in my sleeping, Jesus in my waking, Jesus in drinking tea and eating my breakfast, Jesus in my reading, Jesus in my watching TV. Jesus in my exercising, Jesus in my vegging, Jesus in my writing, Jesus in my cleaning and laundry. I admit I don’t do it every waking moment, but I do it often throughout the day, bringing Jesus into my moments and practising his presence in a very real way.
