Dealing with it
“…teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:20 (NIV)
During one of the most difficult times in the life of our family, my son said to me on several occasions that we would deal with it. His encouragement gave me strength, but I knew that we could only deal with it by God’s infinite mercy and grace.
There are times in life when the ‘mountain’ seems just too high to climb, it towers over us, and we tremble in despair. This is when we throw the lifeboat scripture into the sea of our sorrows:
‘No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.’ (1 Corinthians 10:13.)
This is a commitment and assurance from the great, loving God of the universe, that He will give us the route out of the trial. He will rescue us. This is how we deal with the traumas of life – by looking to Him and trusting Him. As we hold on to our spiritual life belt, we will be comforted by the fact that we are not alone: our Saviour, Jesus, is right alongside us. His promise to Joshua extends to us today: “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5).
How blessed we are to know and love a mighty God who sees us through the worst of times and who gives us the certain hope of the best of times to come.
Prayer
Loving wonderful Father, thank you for always being with us. We look to you for support and assistance to cope with the pressures of life – and you never fail us. We praise you for your great love and mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
