He points us to himself
While Jesus is our North Star, he gives us other, smaller stars to light the way to him. One such smaller star is a word for the year. I’ve been given a word since 2011, and this year is no different. It took a few weeks for me to figure out the word the Holy Spirit had for me, but when it became clear, I decided to fully embrace it.
My one word for the year is ‘know’. I want to know Jesus better and I hope to spend the year with an eye to do that in everything I do, read, and pray. As I mentioned previously, I’m reading A Blended Harmony of the Gospels from The Chosen. I read it twice last year and am on my second time through now. The goal is to read it nine times this year, just hanging out with Jesus. I’m also watching The Chosen and while the creator calls it just a television show, it’s also a great way to be immersed in the life of Jesus and his disciples, keeping in mind it’s a little fictionalised.
Getting to know Jesus is the most important thing we can do in this life. As he said in John 17:3 (NIV), ‘Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, who you have sent.’
May we all endeavour to know our Saviour better and grow in grace and knowledge of him.
