Breathing a Prayer

I’m a big fan of breath prayers. You can turn any Bible verse or part of a verse into a short prayer that uses only one breath. I’ve come up with many on my own, but I’ve also used prayers others have found. One prayer I really love and pray a lot is one I found in a devotional that I neglected to note. The words of this prayer have helped me on many occasions. I’d like to share it with you. It takes a little more than one breath, but that’s OK.

Lord, teach my eyes to see with love, my ears to hear with compassion and my heart to respond with grace.

On bad days, I turn my eyes to God and ask him to teach me these three things, knowing he will give me the grace and strength to see others through his eyes. On good days, I use these words to encourage myself to keep trusting in God to show me how to love others as he loves them. On all of the in-between days, reminding myself I still have so much to learn about being like Jesus keeps me grounded in him and attached to the source of life, light and love.

And all of that happens in a breath or two!
