One in God
“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.”
John 17:20-21 (NLT)
You can insert your name into verse 20 of our header scripture if you are a believer, and if not, God is inviting you as well. We are the ones God has called into his unity, into the oneness of God. If you are like me, you wonder how that could be, but amazed and excited at the same time. I have been told that I speak of the connection we have with God often, and yes, I do. It is such an amazing gift that I am not worthy of, but one I cherish.
We need to be one in unity with one another, but the human race has not been able to find that reality. We gather in groups, but often to war with another group for one reason or another. True unity has not been reached in all the many generations of mankind. So, what is missing? Unity with God, God’s unity, God’s oneness. The unity God has had in his triune being for eternity. We need to embrace that unity which is ours in Christ Jesus.
So, God calls us to himself. He gives us the message of peace and forgiveness, and this message is to be shared with those we meet, who in turn share with those they meet. When you touch one life it multiplies. You may not see the results, but it is there working because God is working in their hearts; just as he has worked his ‘magic’ in yours. We have the Holy Spirit working with us and for us; teaching us and reminding us of everything Jesus told us (John 14:26).
I run to God to find that peace and strength that I need, so that I can now go back into the world with his message of love and hope. They in turn will go out into the world to touch new lives with the life and love of Jesus. Unity built one life at a time, going out like the ripples on a pond until all is touched with the ‘magic’ of Jesus. We are growing in that oneness of unity of God, one life at a time, till all lives are embraced with the love of God and we are one together.
Prayer
As your word says Holy Father, you have given us the glory through your Son Jesus Christ that we may be one as you are one. I thank you God and pray for that day when all will answer the call to oneness in you and you will be glorified in us. It is in Jesus we pray for these things, Amen.
