From Genesis through Revelation, we have the story of God and what he has done for humanity despite our fall from grace. You may feel it unfair to be labelled a sinner at birth, but sinners we all were: ‘For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard’ (Romans 3:23). God may not approve of our sin, but he is not so repulsed by it that he has to turn away from us. No, he ran toward us instead and personally dealt with this sin in our lives. Why? Because he hates sin and he does not want us to be harmed by it. God loves us and he came to earth personally and dealt with the sin that chained us to death. He touched our lives by joining our humanity, and breaking the power that sin had over us.

We try on our own to rid ourselves of our broken ways, but repeatedly we fall from grace, and once again we try to climb back up into God’s graces. Jesus, being who he is both God and man, has for the last time dealt with sin and its consequences. He has done what we could not do for ourselves. Why has Jesus rescued us this way? Because he loves us? Yes. Also, for the glory of God. May we all say: ‘To God be the glory!’

Jesus is always giving praise to the Father and Spirit, the Father to Jesus and the Spirit, the Spirit to the Father and Jesus. I do not claim to understand this relationship fully, but the bond of love that they have, insisted on love being shared for one another. They live for the glory of each other. We have been joined to this relationship, we are now a child of God, and as such, we also must live to the glory of God. We must live in the reality of who we are now.

My life is not filled with perfection. I bet you are not shocked at this. You may be thinking the same thing right now. Thinking you cannot show up when you have so far to go in your faith, in your growth. I still fall when trying to walk, I am not perfect yet, but here is the good news, Jesus is. Jesus stands with me and he lifts me up, and he encourages me, and he gives me the power to take another step. I am a child of God; this is my reality. I have the Father, the Son, the Spirit with me, on my side, and always fighting for me. What I do does not make this true, Jesus does.

Jesus died for us, saved us, believes for us, obeys for us, prays for us, and lives for us. Our faith is weak, but Jesus provides his strength, the strength that we all need. I need Jesus. You need Jesus. He is for us. May we live in this reality together.
